Very difficult to explain for me in english language:

Range compensation for the sidecar brake cable
If you sidecar brake works with a brake cable, you know the problem: Either the rear wheel brakes more or the sidecar wheel brakes more. You nearly can not adjust the brakes. This construction prevents this effect.
There is an easy trick: Adjust the sidecar brake, that it brakes before rear wheel. In order to be able to press the rear brake lever further, you need a package of special springs (in german Tellerfeder. Looks like a washer). The sidecar brake cable sits on this package. Now you press the springs down for moving the rear brake lever while the tension of the cable remains. So that the whole thing does not fall apart, one makes a housing around the springs.
I hope you understand what I mean...
